Subject:
Memorandum by GIA (Group in Intellectuals and Academicians) against the
Hate-India campaign at JNU and Press Club of India
Dear
Mr. Jalali
The
country is witnessing shocking incidents which happened in the recent past
where anti-India pro-terrorist slogans were heard asking for disintegration of
the country. Such incidents strengthen the hands of anti-national forces,
enemies of the country and terrorists who are foes of the humanity.
Two
such incidents in recent days have shook the peace-loving patriots of the
country and the collective conscience of the society-firstly, the anti-India
pro-terrorist slogans by a section of students in Jawahar Lal Nehru University
on 9th February 2016 and secondly in the aftermath of this, the
organization of a seminar on 11th February 2016 in the Press Club of
India wherein in the backdrop of the pictures of terrorists, Afzal Guru and
Maqbool Bhatt, anti-India slogans were shouted.
Legislative,
executive, judiciary and press are the four pillars of Indian democracy. Independence
press has always been the four pillars of Indian democracy, however, such
incident on the Press Club of India has brought disrepute to the fourth pillar
of democracy. In the light of this, we demand the following :
Proper
investigation into the 10th February 2016 incidence at the Press
Club of India.
Termination
of the membership of such persons from the Press Club of India who are involved
in creating hatred towards India.
Examining
and exposing the entire links who provide political, psychological, moral and
financial support to such anti-India persons and terminate their membership as
well.
To
frame guidelines so that the Press Club of India is not used by such
India-haters in future.
Here
I would like to mention that GIA is a vibrant group of socially active
professional women belonging to different spheres of life, which includes a
Pro-Vice Chancellor, a President of India Awardee, Supreme Court lawyers,
internationally renowned artist/dancers, professors, mountaineers, writers, IT
professionals, etc. They have been debating and discussing issues related to
women, society and the nation at large through seminars, workshops, and writing
in newspapers and bringing out a magazine which have established a considerable
impact in the academic circles. We as a socially active and alert group have
witnessed that the Press has been exposing the traitors and hate-India brigade
of the country in the past. We expect that the press will be more vigilant in future
and will continue exposing such further.
Warm
Regard
Monika Arora
