Press Note
Ensure justice to the three girl students who died so protesting against exorbitant college fees: Vinay Bidre
ABVP demands enactment of a comprehensive central legislation on education to regulate fees of private educational institutions.
The death of the three girl students of SVS Yoga Medical College at Kallakuruchi near Villupuram in Tamilnadu on 22nd January 2016 raises serious questions on prevailing corruption in the private educational institution all over the country. It is shocking that the three girls student Saranya, V Priyanka and T Monisha, who were at the fore-front of protests against the college management, were forced to death due to apathy and torture of the management. ABVP demands a thorough probe into the incident and the reasons thereof. It is deplorable that even after repeated protests, the prevailing conditions were not improved which led to this tragic incident. This incident reveals the sorry state of affairs in private EDUCATIONAL Institutions in several parts of the country where students are charged exorbitant fees but are not provided even the basic facilities. The suicide note of students reveal that there was just one teacher in entire college and ten girls were forced to live in a single room. It also reveals the apathy and negligent attitude of the local administration as well as Tamilnadu Government who despite a series of protest did feed the prevailing condition in the college.
ABVP has been continuously raising the voice of students against commercialization of education. ABVP demands that strict action needs to be taken against the college management in this case. Also, to improve the existing conditions in the private educational institutions a series of reforms including enactment of a comprehensive bill on education by the parliament and also by state legislative should be undertaken as soon as possible.
ABVP demands that the Chief Minister should suspend the Education Minister and Health Minister of Tamilnadu immediately, ensure strict action against the culprits, take serious measures so that such tragic incidents are prevented and the situation in private colleges in the State be improved in a time bound manner. Since, the management of the college and police department are giving contradictory statements, ABVP demands CBI enquiry in this case.
