On August 8, 1993, the front of the two-storeyed building of Sakthi Karyalaya was reduced to a rubble by a powerful plastic RDX explosive that had been used in bomb. 11 people were killed and several injured. It was identified as the handiwork of Al-Umma, now banned outfit led by Abdul Nassar Madhani. 18 people in the case were convicted by TADA court and three namely Hyder Ali, Abubacker Siddiq and Kaja Nizamudeen were sentenced to life imprisonment. The Honorable Supreme Court has dismissed the case on December 6, 2010, setting them aside and letting them free.
Shocking at the incomplete investigation by the CBI and the Supreme Court judgement, Chennai RSS unit had then filed curative petition in the Supreme Court. “It is shocking to learn about the acquittal of dreaded terrorists by the Supreme Court on December 6 in the case related to the death of 11 people due to bomb blast at RSS Chennai headquarters on August 8, 1993. The hardcore terrorists can go scot free due to incomplete investigation by the CBI or due to the technicalities.
The only ground on which the Supreme Court acquitted the accused is that the CBI failed to prove the source of RDX/PETN, the explosives used in the blast.
It is not in dispute that the accused entered into conspiracy, planted bombs and that the 11 people died, several injured in the blast. The whole of the building collapsed. In spite of all this, the prosecution case was not accepted by the Supreme Court,” said Shri M Sundara Rama Reddy, then Sanghachalak of Chennai in a letter written to Prime Minister and Home Minister on December 10, copy of which has been sent to CBI Director.

“The case is not simply based on circumstantial evidences. The planting of bombs is proved as submitted by the counsel for prosecution before the Supreme Court. There is no discussion of the same in the judgement. People lose confidence on the criminal judicial system when such glaring dastardly acts are left without proper investigation. Several witnesses have deposed about the planting of bombs and commission of the crime, apart from the confessional statements of the accused.
Under TADA Act such confessional statements are admissible. There is no discussion about submissions of the learned Senior Counsel for the prosecution with regard to the proof of planting of bombs,” Shri Reddy said in the letter.

In the present case, the three accused may be let off on benefit of doubt but there was a conspiracy by Islamic terrorists and therefore the blast occurred.
In Chennai the ‘Martyrs day’ was observed by offering floral tributes to the departed souls.
