When RSS honoured a sports achiever
Sathish Kumar’s gold medal at Glasgow Common Wealth Games has brought the arc lights on Sathuvachari a village near Vellore, Tamilnadu, which has been the cradle of weightlifters all along. The village has been the primary training ground for around 90 per cent of the State’s international lifters. Swayamsevaks of Chennai wanted to honour Satish and his family and so invited them to Sangh Karyalaya in Chennai. On August 23, 2014 parents of Sri Satish visited Chennai Karyalaya (Satish was away in Delhi on that day). They were honoured with a shawl and a memento by Prant Sanghchalak.
The damage that the media can do
In order to show how media has deviated from its main role of reporting the society and instead has corrupted the society, Sri Nandakumar Akhila Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramuk of RSS narrated a shocking instance that took place in Kerala many years back; Charles Sobraj, the international criminal was projected as a Hero by the mindless reports in highly popular Malayalam dailies. During that period the survey by a team revealed that 80% of young women interviewed opted to marry Sobraj among the choices given. Sri Nandakumar was delivering the key note address at the symposium organized by Media Centre (Vishwa Samvad Kendra) Chennai on theme ‘Media and Indian Values’. Editors and correspondents from leading Tamil news channels and dailies enlivened the proceedings by their informed inputs. Sri Natarajan, Sri Nijanthan, Sri Nambi Narayanan, Sri Janarthaperumal, Sri Chockalingam delivered their views. Sri N Sadagopan, Prant Prachar Pramuk, Sri L Krishnakumar and Smt. Ramadevi of Media Centre organized the event.
When Joe D’Cruz recited Gayatri Mantra
Sri Joe D’Cruz Sahitya Akademi awardee, was the Chief guest at the Samskrita Utsav organized by Samskrita Bharati, on the occasion of the Samskrita Day. Joe D Cruz, who hails from fishermen community, has brought to limelight the pangs of fishermen through his writing. He condemned the protests against Sanskrit as a continuation of the colonial mindset to disconnect Indians from their culture and their history. “The greatest scholars of Tamil literature, be it Thiruvalluvar or Kambar were well-versed in Sanskrit too,” he pointed out. He concluded his speech by reciting Gayathri Mantra. He appealed to one and all to work for giving Samskritam its due place in society.
