A case of Child – Running by Missionaries in Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu
A total of seventy-six boys from Assam and Manipur were rescued from the Bedesta Blessing Home, an unregistered children’s home, in Kanyakumari district on January 24. The Home, run by the Roman Catholic missionaries, lacked both adequate infrastructure and enough food to feed the children, officials said. The rescued children are part of 150 children brought to Chennai by a missionary a few years back, but were given away to different homes – one in Bangalore and the other in Kanyakumari – due to inadequate funds to run the home, officials said. Meanwhile, 70 girls from the Bedesta Blessing Home were reported missing the same day that the raid was conducted. The police as well as the Social Defence departments are now in probing activities of the child-running gang.
