A refreshing ‘Kanya Vandana’in Chennai
It was a highly enjoyable and pleasant ‘Vandana’ programme. 2008 girls under 10 were seated as ‘Devi’s and as many little boys performed pada pooja to the tiny Devis. It was ‘Kanya Vandana’ performed on 4th day of the 7 day Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair. All the girls and boys were drawn from schools run by Chennai Municipal Corporation. Every Kanya was dressed glittering, traditional attire, gifted to them by the Fair. This completely refreshing spiritual ambience was greatly appreciated by RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyya Ji Joshi who was present on the occasion. He noted that this kind of socio-religious practice will help bring about desirable moral change in the society. Of the 250 stalls in the Fair, over 2 dozen displayed service activities of caste organizations. As many caste groups, including Dalit groups, happily participated in the fair as Hindus. Over 5 lakh people visited the fair, few thousands of them being school children. This is the 7th consecutive year that the Hindu and Spiritual Service Foundation organized the Fair.
