Medical fraternity lauds RSS on Eye Donation Motivation
“Fantastic” that was the seal of approval stamped by Dr. S S Badrinath, the eye surgeon of world renown and Chief of Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. He was referring to a unique way of obtaining eye donation pledges in thousands by RSS Karyakarthas of Chennai. Over 3000 families were talked into signing the family eye donation pledge. A thousand pledges were handed over to Sankara Nethralaya eye bank at a function ‘1000 Eye Donors Families’ Meet’ organized by ‘Swami Vivekananda 150th year Birthday Celebration Committee’ on November 23 at Meenakshi College for Women in Chennai. Sri Sukas Rao All India Seva Pramuk of RSS and Sri Sundara Lakshmanan, All India Organising Secretary of Rashtriya Seva Bharati graced the occasion and patted the work by the Chennai team, especially in roping in over 30 organizations in this endeavor. Dr. Lakshmi, Secretary of Meenakshi College congratulated the RSS team for this very important contribution to the society. Swami Satyaprabananda Ji of Ramakrishna Order blessed the families which have signed the pledges. (Dr. Badrinath fondly remembered Late RSS Pracharak Sri Shivaram Joglekar whose pioneering work of involving families in eye donation pledge helped greatly to fight against blindness).

An illegal Church and a rattled police
In the heart of metropolitan city of Chennai, on a road off Koyambedu Bus terminus to be precise, a house rented out to a Christian individual took the shape of a Church overnight much to the annoyance of the residents of the neighbourhood. They led by Hindu Munnani activists hit the road and registered their protest. The police intervened and promised to vacate the illegal Church. That did not happen. On one fine morning Hindu Munnani workers locked the Church door and informed the police to show them what was going on. Even after this, there was no removal of the Church in sight. So Hindu Munnani demonstration followed in which Chennai City Secretary Elangovan and Manoharan and a few arrested. The heroic effort of Koyambedu residents to get rid of an illegal Church triggered a series of spontaneous sympathetic demonstrations throughout Tamilnadu which rattled the Chennai police and the Hindu Munnani demonstrators were promptly released.
