“One third of India Naxal infested”; Army Officer
How safe is India? Jagbar Singh, Commanding Officer (South) Indian Army, says one-third of India is infested with Naxal menace. He was speaking as a Chief Guest at a symposium on ‘Technological Ad vancement in Defence Outfits’ organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) at Chennai on April 25. Efforts are on in these areas to upgrade security as well as enhance developmental activities, claimed Jagbar Singh. He said that Indian defence needs high tech increasingly.

Churches monkeying with Hindu sentiments and property

Last week churches across Tamilnadu were at their best in swallowing village lands as well as playing mischief with idols of Hindu Gods. At Injambakkam on the outskirts of Chennai, the local church enlarged its campus by encroaching on common village land to which the Church faced stiff opposition from the poor villagers. Hundreds of villagers gathered in front of the Church demanding the return of their land. The police landed in strength and advised both parties to sort out the issue among themselves. Poor villagers who are the affected party could only simmer in anger. At Madurai, an outfit of the Church calling itself ‘Rural Theological Institute’ has come out with a cross. Instead of Jesus the person crucified on the Cross is a Hindu God. This the outfit describes as ‘Christian Art from India’. It means the Church wants to vilify Hindu idols across the world. Angered Hindus used Facebook extensively to expose this conspiracy.

Chennai IITian’s idea a gift to power-cut hit families
Sivaprasad, a Chennai IITian, led a team that won top national prizes in an exhibition of high tech gizmos recently. The principle involved in the invention by his team is that of ‘emergency lamp glowing once power supply is cut’. This principle, the team applied to domestic refrigerators in order to save food stored in fridges during power cuts. Curiously enough, a multi-national company has come out with identical apparatus to go along with its brand of fridges. (Sivaprasad, it is to be noted, is a swayamsevak of Chennai).
