Chennai’s CLRI presents ‘BIO-REFINERY’
Groundwater of Palar region in Vellore is highly polluted by tannery effluents. Tanneries produce around 2,400 tonnes of waste per day polluting the environment and contaminating the ground water. Yet, there is some good news: Tamilnadu will be the home to the world’s first bio-refinery which will use the solid waste generated from tanneries in Vellore district. The Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) at Chennai has succeeded in developing a bio-refinery which will produce bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, bio-hydrogen and bio-methane substitutes. “With this bio-refinery, we will ensure that tanneries across the country do not discharge any kind of solid materials’ says Shanmugam, CLRI Scientist, who designed this refinery. He also says that the entire waste could be used to generate power, bio-diesel and cooking gas without producing any green house gases or waste of any kind.
UPA’s quaint preferences
Hiranyagarbha or the cosmic womb is a piece of strong evidence that Advaita is the fundamental model of the Universe. Chidambaram, Tamilnadu is the centre of the Universe. Lord Nataraja dancing within a ring of fire – the metaphor of the cosmic dance, unifies ancient mythology, religion’s art and modern physics. Higgs Boson’s ‘God Particle’ (Boson named after Satyendra Nath Bose, an Indian statistical physicist) is said to impart mass and shape to other sub-atomic particles. Sonia’s UPA Government instead of celebrating our Vedic heritage and bringing out the cultural heritage, has proposed to allot Rs.1,350 crores in 12th National plan to R&D in scientific research for setting up a Neutrino observatory at Theni, Tamilnadu.
Acharya pained at dwindling Vedic study
It happens once in a blue moon. Representatives of a secular Government officially welcome a Hindu seer. It happened when Chennai Mayor Saidai S Duraiswamy and Justice C Nagappan welcomed the Shankaracharya of Sringeri Sharada Peetam, Bharathi Tirtha Mahaswami at Chennai. The occasion was marked by chanting of Vedas. The Acharya is visiting the city after a gap of 17 years. Thousands of devotees visit ‘Sudharma’ in Chennai everyday to seek blessings of the Acharya. Swamiji in his Anugraha Bhashanam said, “In these days, Veda Samrakshanam is of paramount importance. How painful it is to note that 60 years back, the Melmangalam village in Theni District (Tamilnadu) had 120 Vedic Pandits; but now, the number has dwindled to just three … we should get back the Vedic Sampradaya in this village to an extent that even if we wish to perform an Atirudra Mahayaga, we should have 120 Vaidikas from this very village, without having to go out to secure them”.
