… The sordid record of
the UPA-I government with regard to internal security is well known. Starting
from the Assam Blasts on 15 August 2004 to the second Guwahati bombing on 6
April 2009, the nation witnessed 20 major terror attacks at the rate of four
attacks per year. Of these incidents, certain attacks that affected Muslims
namely blasts in Malegaon, Mecca masjid, Ajmer and Samjhauta Express have been
attributed to Hindu individuals. The Home Minister has called these incidents a
‘new phenomenon’ called ‘Saffron Terrorism’. Investigations into these
incidents by various bodies like the ATS, NIA and CBI have been selectively
leaked periodically to the media. A Delhi court asked the CBI director to
explain how the confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand regarding
involvement of himself and others in the Ajmer and Samjhauta Express blasts was
leaked to the media.

Much has been made out
of the confession of Swami Assemanand. Firstly, it needs to be mentioned that
all press reports referring to Swami Aseemanand as a RSS leader are false and
the Sangh has categorically called such statements as “not only incorrect but
also misleading and mischievous.” Even otherwise, Safdar Nagori, an arrested
leader of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), has already
admitted to the role of SIMI in the blasts in Malegaon (2006) and the Samjhauta
Express (2007). In its Press Release the 1267th committee of the United Nations
Security Council (UNSC) stated that Arif Qasmani (a Karachi based businessman) “has
worked with LeT to facilitate attacks, to include the July 2006 train bombing
in Mumbai, India, and the February 2007 Samjhauta Express bombing in Panipat, India.”
Swami Aseemanand’s lawyer has specifically denied that
the he made any confession. Therefore this confession is bound face serious
scrutiny in Court. Even Sri Indresh
Kumar’s name is being dragged into the controversy solely on the basis of such
doubtful confessions and statements made by others.
