A tamil novel ‘Madhorubhagan’ written by Tamil
writer Perumal Murugan portrayed the women devotees and Kailasanathar temple in
Tiruchengode in a bad light.  Outraged Hindus filed a complaint against
the writer and held protest demonstrations.  It is reported that a member
of RSS instigated protests against the writer.
Novel contained derogatory remarks on women devotees
attending the festival in Arthanaareeswarar temple.
The protestors took out for procession on 27.12.14
in Tiruchengode, Namakkal District. Immediately, police intercepted and warned
about the consequences of action to be taken when procession proceeds without
permission. Later, the protestors raised slogans against the author for the
derogatory remarks and the attempt to denigrate the custom of Kongu people.  The copies of the books were burnt.
Earlier a petition has been registered with the
police under ‘Merur Kannakula Kongu Naatu Velaalar Trust’ on 26.12.14.  to take action against the author under
section 295A, 501, 502, 120(b).
The activities of fringe elements are blown up and
sensitized by the media.  On answering
over phone to the media, on the question to the controversial dispute, Shri N Sadagopan, Prant Prachar Pramuk
said, “RSS is unnecessarily dragged into the controversy.  The agitations against the book began solely
as a reaction of the locals in the Kongu region.  RSS is involved in wide range of activities
and we do not have time to instigate these activities. The protest is not a
planned one under organization.  RSS will look into the disputed literature that distorted the Hindu practices with counter arguments”

It is also
reported that the author Perumal Murugan tendered his unconditional apology for
hurting the sentiments of Hindus and will withdraw his novel.
