After the Union government announced repeal of the three farm laws, DMK, the third largest party in the Lok Sabha, is now looking to press for scrapping of the  NEET medical exam when the winter session of the Parliament commences later this month, reports The New Indian Express of November 22. DMK MPs have already been asked by the party to raise the issue in the Parliament with relevant data. The DMK MPs are in fact in for a wild goose chase!

It is high time the ruling party stops chasing wild goose and start accepting its responsibility to guide the students in the right path. Instead of offering handsome bonanza to glorify who commit suicide fearing NEET exam, these detractors could run special coaching classes to the lesser privileged students.  Politicians, better you change now as already students have started reaping the benefits of the NEET exam.

The NEET results released in the last three years tear the arguments of detractors into shreds.

Results of 2021 NEET examination published on 1st November.

Falsehood 1:

NEET Exam is favourable for CBSE students.

Fact:

66.5 per cent of those who qualified for this year’s NEET exam were students of the various 22 state boards curriculum.

Falsehood 2:

Government school students find it difficult to succeed in the NEET exam.

Fact:

In Trichy alone, 62 government school students who participated in government-run training classes have cracked the NEET exam this year.

Falsehood 3:

Government school students cannot qualify in the first attempt in the NEET exam.

Fact:  The top three students in government schools are the first timers to take the exam, namely

P.R. Priyanka (Avvai Corporation High School score 414).

Harish Kumar (Yelumalai Government Boys’ High School – Score: 373)

  1. Ashika (EVRA Nagammaiyar Corporation Girls’ High School – Score 351)

Falsehood 4:

NEET examination is basically against rural students.

Fact:

M Sangavi, who was the first to pass 12th standard pubic exam from her community has cleared NEET  202 marks in her second attempt. Her mother is a farm labourer. She is a lone bread winner as her husband (father of Sanghavi) died last year. She has a fair chance of getting admission in any of the government medical colleges.

Falsehood 5:

NEET examination is difficult for Tamil Nadu students.

Fact: In successive years, the number of students getting qualified is on the rise.

2020: 57 216.   2021: 58,922

The results have exploded all the myths and false propaganda unleashed by the vested interests in Tamil Nadu. Further, they poohpooh the so-called findings of the A K Rajan Panel which was appointed to assess the impact of NEET exam on the students of TN. As many experts and educationists pointed out, the results give rise to a doubt if the panel head was compelled to sign on the dotted lines in a report scripted by the political bosses.

Many of the successful students in one voice exude confidence saying “anyone who works diligently can crack NEET” and advise their fellow students to shed fear or self-doubt.
