In an interview with the District Collector, Tiruchirapalli Shri Pradeep Kumar said that there was an issue in 2022 that Waqf Board had sent a communication to the sub-registrar office to stop all the registrations in the Tiruchendurai village which is about 389 acres. So subsequent to that based on the communication received by the sub-register office and also people protesting for that order, RDO had a peace meeting with all three officials Waqf board as well as the registration department. Based on that peace meeting the registration department of the Waqf board cancelled the communication sent to the sub-registrar office”.
Earlier Tamil Nadu Waqf Board Chairman Abdul Rahman had said that these 389 acres of land in Thiruchenthurai village have been registered under several Waqf institutions. Substantial amount of 1000 year ancient temple land and 9 ponds around it in Suriyur village (Trichy) is under Waqf property, he said.
Apart from protests on the issue, the Villagers raised doubt that if the village lands belong to the Waqf board, rent should have been collected all these years. They questioned how their village lands came to be considered as donated land for the Waqf board.
