ABVP CONDEMNS TELANGANA GOVT’S AUCTION OF HCU LAND AND ITS VIOLENT SUPPRESSION OF STUDENT’S PROTEST

ABVP STANDS FIRM IN SAFEGUARDING THE LAND FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES AND PROTECTING STUDENT’S RIGHTS AGAINST AUTHORITARIAN MEASURES

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) vehemently condemns the barbaric actions of the Congress-led Telangana government under the leadership of Revanth Reddy against our Karyakartas and students of Hyderabad Central University (HCU). The events surrounding the auction of 400 acres of HCU land and the reckless deployment of Excavators to encroach upon university grounds have raised alarming concerns.

On March 30th, while the student community of HCU was immersed in Ugadi celebrations, the government brazenly entered the university premises with heavy machinery and workers to begin construction activities. ABVP Karyakartas, who were traveling to the site to voice their opposition, were unlawfully arrested by the police. Subsequently, ABVP members and other students gathered on the university land were subjected to violent attacks and forced detentions by the police, including shocking instances where even the female members were dragged across the ground.

The university administration has unequivocally stated that the police entered the campus without permission, exposing a grievous lapse in student safety within one of India’s most prestigious institutions. National Secretary of ABVP, Shri Shravan B Raj, and other Karyakartas were held in custody until late into the night without any valid reason.

National Secretary of ABVP Shravan B. Raj, stated, “The government’s actions are nothing short of an attempt to stifle dissent through intimidation and violence. The Telangana Police randomly picked up and attacked students, further highlighting the hostile environment created under the current university leadership.

National General Secretary of ABVP Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, stated, “We strongly condemn the manhandling of students by the Telangana police, it is a shameful act that reflects the inefficiency of the university’s Vice Chancellor in ensuring the safety and rights of students. This 400-acre land must be preserved for educational purposes only, as it holds immense value for the academic community and future generations. Revanth Reddy’s government has shown its true colours by resorting to authoritarian measures and suppressing student voices. We strongly oppose this dictatorial approach, which has not only endangered the safety of university students but also exposed the government’s intent to prioritize profit over public welfare by selling educational institution lands to cover up the economic crisis it created. ABVP calls out the Telangana government’s morally bankrupt governance and its complete disregard for the rights of students and citizens.

ABVP demands that the Telangana government immediately cease all activities related to the land auction, withdraw the police force from university premises, and take accountability for the safety and well-being of students. We stand united in our resolve to safeguard university land, protect student rights, and fight back against these undemocratic practices.
