Freedom of Bharat has got by supreme sacrifice made by lakhs and lakhs of patriots. As we embark on Freedom-75 journey to commemorate 75 years of our freedom, let us get inspired from the stories of a few unsung heroes from TN in this series.
The British East India Company entered Bharat around CE 1604 and were indulging in trade and commerce. Their main focus was to enhance their commercial interest and expand the trade. At that time, Portuguese, French and Dutch were also actively trading in India and to gain a competitive edge over their business rivals, British sought the support of local kings. In return favour, British East India Company deployed their troops in the battle field in the local kings’ fight against their rivals.
As things went thus for almost 150 years, a turning point in this equation happened in 1757 when the British East India Company took over the political powers after defeating Siraj-Ud-Daulah in the battle of Plassey.
Those who came to Bharat for the purpose of trading became the political masters and established their “rule” across the country from 1757. This created a flutter across the country and local kings and chieftains revolted against the “foreign rule” established by British.
In the early days of this fight, TN saw a flurry of freedom fighters fighting valiantly against the British. They also had to fight the tyranny of Moghul rulers simultaneously.
There were a few, whose life history was known to us and there were a few, whose life history was not at all known to us. This series is an attempt to portray the valour and sacrifice of those unsung heroes who fought and sacrificed themselves in the service of Motherland.
