“DMK’s win in the recent assembly election is our, minorities, gratis” roars Fr. George Ponnaiah, of Mulagumoodu church in Kanyakumari Dist , TN. He was participating in rally against the denial of permission by the dist authorities to build a Church in Panangarai Village, in Arumanai block, in Kanyakumari dist. The rally was organized by Christian and Islamic groups. He said the HR&CE Minister Sekar Babu is visiting Temples after temples, Hindus are not amused and only minorities will ensure DMK’s electoral victory.
He asserted DMK’s victory was due to directives to the community by Priests and efforts of Christian Community workers, who canvassed door to door and not due to the party’s efforts. Nagercoil DMK candidate Suresh Rajan, declined our help, fearing Hindu backlash, hence BJP’s M.R. Gandhi won the seat, said the priest.
He further accused Hindus who revere the earth as “ Bhooma Devi”. But she is “filthy” and could spread diseases. That is the reason TN Govt issues free “Footwear” to school children. The Christian population in the dist that stands at 62% will grow further. Using filthy languge he conveyed the idea that they, like Muslims, are unassainable.
He cursed saying that the PM Modi and the MoH Amit Shah will not have peaceful end, wherein ‘dogs and earth worms’ will eat away their bodies after death. The Video clip of this atrocious speech is going viral in social media. A couple of FIRs were filed by Hindu Munnani and BJP state advocates wing President and Advocate Aswathaman in Chennai. But so far there is no reaction from either the Govt or DMK party.
Is not the statement tantamount to interference of Religion in the electoral process? Will the Election Commission of India take suo-motu cognizance and act? Do minorities influence the election outcome in the state? Does DMK accept it practices minority appeasement? Is DMK’s silence an approval of Fr. George Ponniah’s statement? If not, will the govt book him on charges of creating communal disharmony? Why all liberal and secular voices in the state are silent? Do they subscribe to this?
